Kindergarten - Comparing Numbers Unit
The Comparing Numbers Unit involves understanding the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers, and their relationships within the numeration system. Students will answer questions such as—
- How do you know which group has more? How do you know which group has less?
- Do any groups have the same number? How do you know?
Math Concepts and Skills:
The student compares whole numbers and understands relationships within the numeration system.
The student:
- creates a set using objects and pictures that represents a number that is more than, less than, or equal to a given number up to 20.
- generates a number that is one more than or one less than another number up to 20.
- uses comparative language to describe groups of objects up to at least 20 in each group.
- uses comparative language to describe two numbers up to 20 presented in written form.
Instructional Tasks/Formative Assessments
Students determine if Audrey and Stella put the same number of markers in the marker can.
Students determine where the greatest number of cats is sitting.
Students compare to see who has the greater amount of toy trucks.
