Grade 2 - Data Analysis Unit
The Data Analysis Unit involves organizing information to make it useful for answering questions such as—
- Who might be interested in the information in your graph? Why?
- What questions CAN be answered using information from your graph? How can you answer your questions?
- What questions CANNOT be answered using information from your graph? Why?
- What predictions can you make using information from your graph?
Math Concepts and Skills:
The student collects and organizes data to make it useful for interpreting information and solving problems.
The student:
- explains that the length of a bar in a bar graph or the number of pictures in a pictograph depicts the number of data points for a given category.
- organizes a collection of data with up to four categories and uses pictographs and bar graphs with intervals of one or more to represent the data.
- creates and solves word problems involving addition or subtraction using data represented in pictographs and bar graphs.
- draws conclusions and makes predictions using information in a graph.
Summative Assessment Task
Students collect and display data to decide which color should be used to paint some shelves.
Instructional Tasks/Formative Assessments
Students survey their classmates to select an activity for art class.
Students collect and organize data to determine which season the class enjoys most.
Students collect and organize data to help Mrs. Garcia choose a paint color.
