The Fraction Unit involves an introduction to fractions as equal parts of a whole in order to answer questions such as:
- How can you tell that this circle has been split into halves?
- Why has this square NOT been split into fourths?
- How will you share this cookie with a classmate and make sure that each of you gets a fair share?
Summative Assessment Task
Students determine how four friends can each have an equal share of a rectangular pizza.
Instructional Tasks/Formative Assessments
Students determine if there will be any snack bar left if two friends each eat half of the snack bar.
Students show what Lucy's circle looks like if she colors half the circle red and half the circle blue.
Students determine where Mandy should draw lines on a piece of wood so her mom can cut the wood into fourths.
Students determine if all the glass rectangles in a window have been washed.
The N/A classification refers to TEKS Standards that cannot be assessed through problem solving.
For this reason, tasks have not been included for these particular standards.
